A video guide for this exploration can be found at entry #1 in Episode 1 of Five Minute Explorations, which is shown above.
Hidden beneath the peaceful streets of Northrend Dalaran is a crime-filled underbelly, and hidden beneath that is the Dalaran Arena.
If you’ve ever tried your hand at 2v2 or 3v3 duels, you may be familiar with the Dalaran Arena map. But what you may not know is that there’s an uninstanced copy of the room hidden deep within Dalaran, far below the city’s savage underbelly.
This copy of the arena can only be viewed through a grate in the floor of the underbelly and is normally inaccessible to players. However, a method detailed in the video above allows you to maneuver yourself underneath the city and into the arena, where you will be dismounted and dropped below the floor.
From here, you can jump up through the floor to leave the pool and explore the uninstanced copy of the Dalaran Arena. While the area is generally the same as the PvP map, there are two notable differences.
First, you can look up through the grate in the ceiling to see players walking around the Underbelly.
And second, every few minutes a set of Gladiator NPCs will spawn and fight each other to the death.
These NPC’s are designed to simulate 2v2 teams dueling. Each time a “duel” begins, a pair of NPC teams will spawn in opposing sewer pipes, jump down, and run to the center platform. Once there, they will begin attacking one another and gradually wearing down their opponents health. Both teams are uninteractable, and will always be considered friendly regardless of race or faction, which means you can’t interfere in the duel in any way (you filthy cheater).
After a few minutes, both members of one team will be killed, and the winning team will run to the center and celebrate for a few seconds before both they and the corpses of the opposing team despawn. And while you may not be able to rig the fight, you’ll get front row seats to as many NPC duels as you can watch, free of charge!
